032 Centreville

kre032-00003.jpg
This picture allegedly shows Centreville during the Civil War. It is also noteworthy because of the "Krehbiel's Korner" stamps on the back. (Note that the print was actually larger than my scanner, so this picture is cropped by an inch or so on the top and left.) Another photograph from moments earlier can be found on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Centreville_1862.jpg), where the scene is described as "Main street and church guarded by Union soldiers." That photo is credited to George N. Barnard and James F. Gibson, dated May 1862.

brn015-00005.jpg
190x Mysterious Dexter Photograph. This mysterious picture is labeled Ma Dexter. UPDATE 2/12/2008: I just noticed that the old man in this picture strongly resembles Samuel Walker Brown. I also think it's possible that the girl standing on the back row, left is Marjorie, and the girl standing fourth from the left (with the corsage) could be Georgennea or Martha. One of the boys on the left could be Taylor.

It is conceivable that this is a tin type of Peter and Katie Krehbiel with children Emma, Elmer, and Jake. However, I suspect it isn't. The man and woman seen here do not strongly resemble other pictures of Peter and Katie around this time period. Upon further reflection, the woman on the right slightly resembles the woman in tin000-00013 and tin000-00014, although it's hard to tell.

I got an email from Donna G. Smith who identified this as Nancy Jane (Joyce) Brown, wife of Samuel Brown. You can see the resemblence clearly by looking on Page 8 of "Samuel Brown And His Descendents." The woman is wearing the same outfit and jewelry in both pictures. Thanks Donna!

tin000-00008.jpg
Unknown tin type man who looks slightly dead. I got an email from Donna G. Smith who thinks this might be a younger Samuel Walker Brown, taken at the same time as tin000-00003 (Mary Jane Joyce Brown), although I'm not sure I agree with that assessment.
